Anxiety

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is so common is sounds like a silly question to ask what it is.  We all experience it frequently, but is it important to understand that anxiety is simply a state of your nervous system to help you prepare for a real or perceived threat.

Specifically, the Vagas Nerve (wandering nerve), activates your system by increasing blood pressure, heart rate, defense responses, oxygen circulation, and muscle activation to fight or flee from a threat.

When our Vagas Nerve gets stuck in this state, which is sometimes does, we can experience a whole range of emotional, spiritual, and relational problems because we are trying to cope from a place of a perceived threat.

Anxiety is distressing, but when we understand we were designed by God to experience it to help us survive.  From this place, we start to realize the value and purpose of anxiety and slow down enough to listen and clarify what our brain is trying to tell us, and we can make adjustments accordinly.
